Rota Feria Feria celebrations used to be a kind of farmers spring fair with prizes awarded to best-in-show for horses, pigs, cows, etc. similar to the many spring fairs that were held in the USA many years ago and still are in many rural areas today. However in modern times the emphasis is on entertainment with many booths featuring games of chance and rides for children and grownups alike. Along with lots of casetas (small and large buildings which can temporary or in some cases permanent structures) sponsored by fraternities or hermanadads (brotherhoods) as a place for the membership, family, friends and invited guest to eat, drink, dance sevillañas (type of flamenco dance) and socialize with those not seem recently. After Easter week all of Andalucia looks forward to the coming of the Ferias. A feria is something like a county fair in the United States, but here each town has its own feria. There are livestock shows and contest of various kinds like flamenco dancing for different age groups. No nationally on earth knows how to have a good time better than a Spaniard during feria. The fun doesn't really begin until midnight and often continues until sunrise. It is a very common sight to see tired, but happy, guys and girls and whole families, dressed in the traditional Spanish feria costumes, returning home after early morning cups of hot chocolate and churros (a doughnut like treat) or café con leché (hot strong coffee with milk) and perhaps a copa or two (a copa is a small pony glass filled with brandy, whisky, or perhaps a typical favorite liquor called Ponché. Ponché is commonly served with a freshly brewed cup of café con leché) to put a cap on the night. And then to sleep most of the new day so as to ready to do it all over again the next evening.)
