This area of Andalucia is known as Costa de la Luz (Coast of light) as we are situated on the south-western part of the Iberian peninsula and our sunsets can be pretty spectacular  during the summers. Our sun sets close to 22:00 (10 p.m.) in the height of the summer season, which allows for a maximum period of time available to sunbath on the European Union award winning beaches of Rota and our various communities and neighboring towns.

Traveling through Andalucia you will, from time to time, see road signs indicating that the next town is on the "Ruta del Pueblos Blanco" or "Route of the White Towns." In all towns of Andalucia the predominate color is white. Almost every house and building in the tiny mountain and coastal towns have whitewashed walls and the ubiquitous red tiled roofs seen in most of Spain. Andalucia is synonymous with summer heat and these whitewashed walls reflect the intense sunlight of summer, helping to keep the mid-day temperatures inside these homes at a comfortable level. Another feature of the dwellings of these towns and villages is that the walls are unusually thick, which helps keep the interiors cool in summer and warmer in the winter.

As time passes and the good Lord willing I will attempt to bring the viewer of these pages more and more photos from the Pueblos Blanco of Andalucia and other interesting sites. They will all be linked to this page.
